OpenAI simply made its largest acquisition but, scooping up Jony Ive and Sam Altman’s secretive machine startup, io, in a $6.5 billion all-equity deal. Ive, the legendary designer behind the iPhone and different iconic Apple merchandise, will now lead artistic and design work at OpenAI by means of his agency LoveFrom. The aim? To take AI “past the display” and construct a brand new era of AI-powered shopper units.
Past the tech, there’s a transparent narrative play right here. OpenAI is framing Altman because the Jobs-esque visionary and Ive because the design genius who makes all of it actual.
